Angel Tree Awesomeness!

On Saturday, December 20th, Kairos 2 had the opportunity to join in on the annual Angel Tree Extravaganza!  The event was truly spectacular as families from all over Oakland and surrounding areas came to experience a slice of Christmas.  Each of the families had a family member in prison and signed up to receive aid through Angel Tree for their families.  I am not sure who benefited more from the event — the families or us!

Our time there began that day as families began to show up and a delicious turkey dinner was served.  Shortly following some rockin’ Joyland songs were sung, a hilarious skit was presented, and magic tricks were shown to be quite magical (no really, they were).  To top it off, Santa himself showed up to give gifts to the children. It was a real blessing to see the joy we were able to bring to the families.

In such holidays, it seems like it would be extremely hard for the families as they are missing a parent.  I was really touched to know that perhaps maybe for that day we helped them see they have a Heavenly Father who loves them and is always there.  In the process, I too was greatly reminded of this love and the precious gift He gave each of us on Christmas!

Many more awesome Angel Tree Extravaganzas to come! =)

I was really glad that Eddy and Brian (Tammy’s friend from home) were able to make it!

Like Ryan shared, Angel Tree was just amazing. When the families first arrived, the children (and teenagers) were rather shy. In fact, many of them didn’t seem like they wanted to be there. However, as the day progressed, they really warmed up to us. One of the teenagers got comfortable enough to chit-chat with Eddy and Ryan, while his younger sister (about four years old) was quite fond of Michelle and Tammy. Meanwhile, Brian and I were enthralled by the stories told by a grandmother of another family (who was sitting next to her mother!)

Special props to Santa Claus, who was cheerful with his ho-ho-hos to the very end!

I’m glad that our church was able to participate in this event. It’s a concrete way that we were able to love others and experience getting out of ourselves! Even though I wasn’t able to be there (Amy and I were in Taiwan), it’s good to hear how everyone there enjoyed their time.

Haha, Yang Wang told me that he was very scared of the kids questioning his Chinese accent, but I think that they were blessed at our efforts.

I’ve missed Angel Tree for two years in a row now T_T
    My finals are dumb.

I’m glad that this experience really told us about how to spread God’s love and concretely demonstrate it as he did so for us.
