Thanksgiving Celebration Blast!

This past Sunday, many of us got to experience the joy that is Thanksgiving Celebration! My entry probably does not do it full justice, but here’s a recap of the major events!

Thanksgiving Celebration started out with some awesome praise. Many members of our praise band were on the huge stage singing awe-inspiring worship to our one and only wonderful God. Afterwards, Pastor Ed gave a very short message to end our series about Psalm 73 (he says it was only 15 minutes!). Service primarily comprised of the ministry videos that summarized the past year’s events. Our very own Robert Kim was part of the Kairos bit on the College ministry video! All the videos were very well made, especially the Joyland and Impact video that featured Josiah as a professional newscaster. Next, Praxis sang Handel’s “Hallelujah”, which was a very nice way to end service. However, we were completely unaware that they were going to take “Hallelujah” to a whole other level when TC started.

In the words of Ben Koo: “So it begins”. Utter shamelessness, drama, comedy, Korean drama, shadow puppet drama, weird dancing, and a jubilee of 80’s classic music all with the theme of giving thanks to our God, all packed into 2 hours. Praxis kicked off the event with… I don’t know what quite to call it, “Hallelujah Remix”? with glow sticks and strobe lights included. I think I speak for everyone to call the performance…jaw-dropping speechless. Nevertheless, it was the perfect way to kick off TC! Kairos was third in the line of performances. We experienced many technical difficulties, but Gracepoint was very patient with us, and loved our performance! After ours, a definite theme of the following performances was definitely the 80’s. “Vamos a la playa”, “No tengo dinero”, “Under Pressure”, “The Power of Love”, and “Back to the Future” were some of the many 80’s remakes. (Dis)Honorable mentions include Daniel and Kenny as the “Vamos a la Gracepoint” duo, and Calvin and Danny singing “Under Pressure” as an ode to Pastor Ed and everything he does for our church. And the fact that these two parts were of the same performance made it even more mind-blowing. Good job a2f Gold! Other notable performances were Koinoinia’s shadow puppet theatre featuring the Pilgrims, Steven Choi’s yodeling narrative of the Lost Sheep, Element’s High School Musical: Planet Earth Teens, and Pastor Will (Moses) ending TC with a breakdancing showdown with the Pharaoh. All in all it was truly a blessed time of laughter and howling at – I mean, with – our beloved members of Gracepoint Fellowship Church… although some parts were also slightly traumatizing.

Kairos 2 Thanksgiving Feast!

Kairos 2 Thanksgiving Feast!

After all that good cheer, Kairos 2 headed over to Amy and Andy’s house for a Thanksgiving feast. The menu included: corn, mashed potatoes with scallops, stuffing, turkey, meatloaf, salad, cornbread with homemade honey butter, and pumpkin pie! Our bellies full of great food, we all sat in a big circle to share what we were thankful for that year. The first prompt was in the form of “If it weren’t for _____, then I wouldn’t be _____”. And the second prompt was what was the most memorable memory we had here at Kairos/Gracepoint. After some awkward silences some people spoke up about what they were personally very thankful for. It was a great time of sharing, getting to know one another, and appreciating each other. Even though TC was only a few days ago, I can’t wait until next year when it happens all over again!

Vamos a la TC again next year!

Man this year’s TC made me so tired just from the laughter, I think we need to step it up and have Andy Tung lead us in some of the shamelessness of Adam and Eve – pre-fall of course. But all in all, it made me remember that we have so many things to be thankful for, and I’m sure that as people are home, we realize that we have more and more to be thankful for – and even if we didnt get to go home, we can still think of home and the many things to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving

And thanks be to Timothy! That little guy walked around and broke any awkwardness that Chanhee mentioned during the sharing time.

Note to the editor: yes, we are sick of it, so bring out the pictures! ๐Ÿ˜›

Thanks, Chanhee, for the post! I think you summed it all very well! In terms of pure content, I think we at Kairos deserve that award. With that said, maybe next year we can try to do our own “Under Pressure”… now, who would like to wear that flashy gold outfit? =D

I volunteer Abe Yang to wear the flashy gold outfit ๐Ÿ˜€
It’d go great along with those sick shoulder movements ๐Ÿ˜›

I love the song “Under Pressure”! Although I don’t think I can hit all the high notes…. or wear that ridiculous outfit…

Wow I don’t know if my post was “really good” as you say. But I’m always willing to service my sub-par writing skills for this blog!

Wow! Thanks for recounting TC for us!! We definitely had a blast. I’m still recovering from the massive amount of food, the jaw-dropping acts, and the great fellowship!

I can’t wait for the next time we get together and have so much fun. I’m so thankful that we got to do this as a church and Kairos group!
