Point Reyes:2, Kairos:0

Kairos 2 at Marshall Beach

We had a lovely trip to Point Reyes two weeks ago (4/19). We first went on a beautiful, 1.5 mi. hike to Marshall Beach, where we proceeded to have a quick lunch and enjoy the sand… or in this case, the log (pictured above). Nice walk on the beach. Enjoyin’ the great weather. Everything was perfect.

Then we went to the lighthouse.

Let me give you a brief history of our encounter with said lighthouse in the past. Last time we came — about a year and a half ago, when we just barely started Kairos — the lighthouse was supposed to be the climax of our trip. Upon arriving to the lighthouse at 4:45pm, we realized that it closed down at 4:30. Jacked.

Point Reyes LighthouseThis year, we vowed that we will reach the lighthouse. No more will we be governed by lack of preparation: we called the lighthouse to verify that it still closes at 4:30pm. No more will the lighthouse be a lingering bad aftertaste in our mouths. Mr. Lighthouse, we will reach you this time, and we will have the last laugh.

So, we arrived to the lighthouse at 4pm this time around, and lo and behold — it was closed! Little did we know, the steps to the lighthouse closes when winds go beyond 40 mph; the winds that day, according to the visitor center, was 49 mph with gusts up to 74. Oh, the misfortune! The pain!

So, what did we do? We did what any group would’ve done — we took photos at the gate of the lighthouse to commemorate this occasion:

Of course, there were more people this year, so everybody had a chance to pose by the gates:

One day, Mr. Lighthouse, we will reach you yet. And on that day, we shall laugh. Really, really hard.

Of course, this isn’t to say that we didn’t have a good time there. As a matter of fact, we had great fun. Go check out all of our Point Reyes photos! (You can, of course, also check out our 2006 photos at Point Reyes.)
