Last week we had a WONDERFUL trip to the Sierra Lodge! The occassion started off on Friday night when we gathered at 213 Wheeler for dinner. We watched “Everything is Spiritual” and learned about how the laws of nature as we know them change as we go deep into the complexity of quarks or as we try to grasp the expanse of our universe. As if hearing about God’s creation were not enough, after some study time, a sleep over, and several Starbucks double shots, we drove up to the Sierras to experience it all first hand.

At our first major stop we hiked along a river (Truckee River?) and climbed on, in, and around rocks, and tried not to slip in the freezing cold water. (We didn’t want to die.) Then we drove to our next stop, which was a trail to this AMAZING place called Island Lake. The journey was nice–dense trees with various shades of green and moss on their bark, narrow paths, blue lakes, and icicles along streams–and the destination was beautiful. After some scruptuous peanut butter and jelly sandwitches we headed back.

We arrived at Sierra Lodge, moved in our bags, and took a tour of the house and got a sneak peak a the soon-to-be Sierra Barn. We got to climb a latter to the upper story and watch the workers install the plumbing. It was super fun to see the house from the inside out! (Yeah engineering! So cool!)

Then several brothers and sisters attempted archery and took a shot–at stones, hay, trees, the well house, and not to mention the actual target. Actually, several people, including myself, felt rather accomplished to even hit the hay on which the target rested.

Mmmmm...
For dinner the sisters got together and prepared a meal of two beef dishes, a pork dish, corn, mashed potatoes, warm rolls, and fried kimchi while the brothers played basketball. It was quite a feast! Don’t worry, the brothers graciously volunteered to clean, and did a good job.

Nuclear Risk: To nuke, or not to nuke, that is the question.
We then broke off for free time and watched Lord of the Rings, played games, and studied. We tried to do star gazing, but got a nice, big full moon instead.
Finally, we went to sleep and drove back to Berkeley in time for Sunday Worship Service to hear the message on Monday Through Saturday, on Christian values and living.
