New Kairos Website

Wow,

It’s going to be a busy time in Kairos over the summer. For those of you who haven’t heard Kairos is going to join A2F Blue, but don’t worry, we’re going to keep the name of Kairos because we have lovely, high quality sweaters for the low, low price of $35 dollars (it wasn’t me who said it, it was Pastor Ed).

So this is going to be a highly uncertain time with major restructuring and adjustments made along the way, but amidst this uncertainty, one thing will be certain. We’re going to have an awesome new website.

www.kairosfellowship.org

It’s a classy website that gives off the collegiate look, something that Kairos has been moving towards more and more each year. Its color scheme is a warm amalgam of brown, light blue, and gold. The website maintains an avant-garde design which meets welcoming at the crux of functionality.

So come and join me in posting on the new website!

Super Saturday SF Spectacular!

Coming home from the exciting Kairos 2 Kick-off & Bible Study, we all went home and eagarly slept right away in preparation for the next day. And while that might not be true for the most of us, I’m sure it was for some. :D

Meeting at Crossroads at 10:30 AM we piled into 5 different cars. The names of the cars were Kumba, the Lion Slayers, the Poachers, Elephant Stampede and, of course, the best car, Mufasa.  (Disclaimer: Author may have slight bias in writing this article). There was some difficulty in getting out of Berkeley, as it is exteremely difficult for all 5 cars to make it through any given traffic signal, but, having all gotten out of Berkeley, we crossed the beautiful Richmond Bridge over to Battery Park. Now allow me to digress a little as I had the special priviledge of being in the car that took a special tour of Sausalito.

Mufasa’s navigator, a very awesome navigator who shall remain nameless, was once again reminded of his ability to make errors as he mistook Andy’s comment about the Outback steakhouse as a cue to exit. Going along what appeared to be the right way, Mufasa took a 5 minute tour of Sauaslito before starting to feel qualms about going deeper and deeper. Mufasa eventually made it back on track to the road and was met with a group that had pretty much took in all that they could of the magnificent view from Battery Park, but what a view it was! From Battery Park you could see the Boats, Alcatraz, a boat dock, SF, the Pacific Ocean, the Bay Bridge in the distance, and oh yeah, the Golden Gate Bridge! Along with the clear skies and the Golden Gate Bridge, there was also a nice and refreshing breeze which was a relief from the sweltering heat wave that had been affecting Berkeley the previous week.

Straight from Battery Park, we headed over to the famous Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf where we went to Chowder’s and ate Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bread bowl. Surprisingly, many people finished, and we have a picture to commemorate those who did! After eating out fill, who should drop in on us but Kairos 1! We walked over together to Krazy Kaps, the store where we tried on various silly hats, some of which looked distrubingly good and natural on us.

After taking many pictures, we headed over to Lombard St’s most famous quarter-mile section known as the windiest road (most crooked) in the world.  We had the opprotunity to drive down the EIGHT haipin turns at corning speeds that would shock NASCAR drivers, but with people like Michelle and Andy behind the wheel, we were all safe even while going the 5 miles per hour.  We took a picture at the bottom of the hill, showing that we were indeed more than conquerers of this monstrous path.

After spending a good amount of time looking for parking, we ended in Ghiradelli square. The hot day was perfect to enjoy some of the finest ice cream around and other savory sweets. Although not everyone got an Earthquake, sweets were in abundance and I know I gained like 5 pounds just eating that Ice Cream. Well, there you have it. Our SF Spectacular in a not-so-nutshelly-nutshell. I think that the weather, fun, fellowship and experience that we had, was definetely worth the wait.

Oh, when talking about the way, I was not talking about the long lines we had all day, I’m talking about the postponement from Labor Day to Saturday. :D

Golden Gate Glory

About ready to head on out

This past Wednesday on May 21, 2008 marked the first ever Kairos 2 Biking Trip. Starting early in the morning we drove out to Marin County right up to the Golden Gate Bridge. When we got there, much to our dismay, we found out at the last second that a sister couldn’t ride a bike. While Andy tried to give a crash course in Bike Riding 101, time had just ran out. That sister and Amy were therefore designated as point-women who were in charge of securing our destination — who made sure to drive past us effortlessly on their way there.

Man what a sight to see, looking over the Golden Gate bridge almost made me forget the pains of riding a bike, almost. The view was impeccable and the skies were clear, quite “devastating” if I were to use the words of a certain leader. I think everyone was pretty much hurting with the bike’s seat being so hard and constant pedaling. But we pedaled all the way from Golden Gate Bridge to Pier 39 aka Fisherman’s Wharf. Andy, being the ever able leader, led us into traffic to make acquaintances with cars, but it all worked out.

FOOD! Finding a clutch alcove next to a building, we all found public seating to enjoy our oishii clam chowder and fried kalamari. Unfortunately, Brother James Yoon unwillingly befriended a bird right before. :/ Those who finished their clam chowder bread bowls were: James Yoon, Abe Yang, Yolani (I don’t know your last name I’m sorry), and myself. I believe Andy Tung was just shy of finishing the bottom layer of the bread bowl.

Crossed the Golden Gate Bridge!

Lin and Arlene as Iron Men (or is that women?)

The ride back was seriously painful as we fought against the wind to ride back to where our cars were parked. Indeed one cannot force themselves to exercise this hard. If we didn’t get back, we weren’t going home! So again we picked up our bikes and traveled. At a rest point about half way, Lin became Iron Man for us in which we enjoyed taking pictures with the Iron Man.

The trip was full of biking, picture taking, biking, good eats, biking, and overall fellowship (did I mention biking?). After the biking trip, which I’m sure tired everyone out, the group went to Andy and Amy’s place for some barbecue and a movie, which Michelle was super excited about a certain movie having bought the movie and selling it to the sisters during the biking trip (Indiana Jones!), or probably something like that, because I had to leave and miss out on Amy’s devastating cooking. Bu hao.

PS. The movie wasn’t really Indiana Jones, it was the First Chronicles of Narnia movie, but all the brothers tried to convince Michelle to watch Indiana Jones.
