There is still quite a bit of work to do, but things are looking good, and I am excited to see everyone on stage in just about 10 days!! For those of you who wont be on stage acting or dancing, dont forget to reserve your tickets online for one of the three performances and dont forget to invite all your friends as well! Check out the website: Gracepoint Live

Emmanuel Convalescent Home Visit

This past Sunday a group of about 10 of us had the privilege and opportunity to visit Emmanuel Convalescent Home and to hold a Sunday service there, with the help of one of our Praxis ministry groups led by Richard &  Lauren.  We met bright and early at 8:30AM at the convalescent home located in Alameda.  Quickly, we all helped set up in the activity room—moving furniture around, setting up the sound system, putting out our special gifts, handing out bulletins and greeting some residents who were already trickling in.  Within about 20 minutes, the room was almost entirely filled up with residents in their wheelchairs, waiting for the program to begin.  Richard gave a quick introduction to our Kairos group and led us in a short prayer before the 10 of us came to the front of the room and started singing “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” (with motions!) and “All The Way My Savior Leads Me.”

After the singing time, our very own Tracy Holmes gave a short gospel presentation.  Using cutout hearts and word art, Tracy shared with the grandmothers and grandfathers that God has given each one of us a heart but through sin our hearts have become stained.  There is nothing that we can do on our own to clean our hearts again, but God says that when we admit our sins, believe in him, and choose to enter a relationship with him, we can be forgiven and cleansed.  Thus, though we may face difficulties and troubles in this life, we can be confident of God’s love which is so much greater than all our sins and through that we can find hope in the midst of darkness.  To finish off the program, we came up to sing “All The Way My Savior Leads Me” one more time—I think all of us were deeply moved and touched by the words of this song as we recognized that indeed God is the only one who can fill us, that he is our guide and source of heavenly peace and comfort.  After the song, we then split up to mingle with the residents and to present them the little gifts we had prepared—a cutout hand (to signify that God has the whole world in his hands), a pen and a friendship bracelet (which we had so meticulously prepared the nights before).  We got to talk to the residents and wrote on the cut out hands that God loves them as well as decorated the hand with little stickers to help them remember this special day.

All in all, the Convalescent home was a great experience, and I am thankful that we had this opportunity to go visit the elderly and share with them God’s love.  Looking around the room that Sunday morning, I was so glad to see all us trying to step out of our comfort zones and talk to these elderly residents—smiling at them, holding their hands, showing them patience, love and kindness.  Though making those friendship bracelets was painful, I think it was all worth it in the end—especially seeing the elderly smile as we tied the bracelets around their wrists!  I hope that the next time we go more of you can join in on this special experience!
