In the news (3/9 – 3/15)

UPDATE: For sisters, if you are interested in joining us for the DimSum & SF FUN this Saturday, SIGN UP NOW!

UPDATE(2) FOR BROS: Ropes course got canceled — unfortunately, there was a scheduling conflict on their end. So now, we’re going to Vals (an awesome burger joint — Ryan can attest to this) for lunch and head back to Berkeley to play sports and then all study together. We’ll be meeting at the Channing-Bowditch parking lot at 11am. Please let Andy know if you’re interested in going!

I know that G-Live is right around the corner (under four weeks!), but we’ll still be doing a lot of fun stuff together! Check this out:

Brothers Ropes Course, Bonfire, Sports, Rockwall Climbing and more!!
Saturday, 11am @ Santa Cruz — Meet at parking lot across from Crossroads DC.

All-Kairos bros will be heading out to Santa Cruz for some bonding 70-80 feet above ground at a ropes course in Santa Cruz. Don’t worry, it’s totally safe with harnesses and safety equipment, but if you’re too chicken… haha. We will grab In-and-out on the way up, then play frisbee and football on the field there as well as go rock climbing.

BYOF Dinner & GTS
Friday, 6pm @ 1st Pres

We’ll be combining with all the Kairos groups this Friday for dinner. Please BYOF — bring your own food — and join us at the courtyard of 1st Pres at 6. We’ll then go to our GTS classes, followed by G-Live practice.

Sisters Dimsum & SF Trip
Saturday, 10:30am @ Annahead Parking Lot

Not to be outdone by the brothers, the sisters will be heading out to SF for some dimsum and other goodies this Saturday. If you’re interested in coming, please let Michelle know and meet at the Annahead Parking Lot (on Channing-Bowditch) at 10:30.

Northloop Church Cleaning
Saturday, 6pm

If you’ve ever used our facilities at Northloop, then you’ll notice that it’s always decently clean. That’s because each week, a particular ministry group is responsible for cleaning it. The beacon is lit, and this week, Kairos will answer the call! If you’d like to help out (and experience fellowship in the process), please let Michelle know. Oh, and dinner will be provided afterwards.

Sunday Worship Service
Sunday, 11:30am @ Willard Middle School

Join us in our weekly worship service!

Photos are up!

Valentine’s Day & Football Photos

What seems like complete polar opposites have been joined together, thanks to this very blog post. Here are some photos from our past events — photos from the Beach outing will be up soon!

Vamos a la Playa

UPDATE: Please SIGN UP for the Saturday Beach Trip! (NOTE the time change)

Hey guys, hope your week is going well. I know a lot of you just went through (or are still in the midst of) a barrage of midterms, projects, essays, and homeworks. Those are a few things that I’m grateful that I no longer have to deal with when I’m at work! (Then again, those of us who work have to be all there from 9am-6pm).

Here’s what’s happening this week:

Friday: Dinner (5:45pm) & Gracepoint Training School Courses (7pm)

We’ll be providing dinner @ the Unit 3 Ida Sproul lounge at 5:45. Afterwards, we’ll all walk over to 1st Pres for our GTS courses, followed by more G-Live practices! Woohoo!

Saturday: Vamos a la Playa

All of Kairos will be going to the beach this Saturday! Ultimate frisbee, ultimate volleyball, and ultimate BBQ! We’ll also light up a bonfire towards dusk, so I hope you’re looking for some relaxing time in the sand! We changed this to an afternoon trip due to the weather. But having a bbq lunch and sports is pretty awesome!!

Meet @ Parking Lot across from Crossroads DC @ 10am 2:30pm. We will be back around 3pm.  Sign up here!

Thats Kairos. With a 2.

That's "Kairos." With a "2."

Sunday: Worship Service (11:15am)

As usual, our service will be held at 11:15am @ Willard Middle School.

See you all on Friday (if not sooner)!

GTS and Valentine’s Day of Compassion

ANOTHER UPDATE FOR SISTERS: Sorry to change things again but here’s a new plan for the sisters! We will not have a sleepover on Friday, but instead we will have a Valentine’s Party on Saturday right after the Henry Robinson Center visit!  Come join us for a fun bonding time over dinner, dessert and games–girls only!

Update: For Saturday, we’ll be meeting at Dana House at 12pm 11:30am. Please bring your own lunch! Don’t forget to sign up by Thursday! In other news, sisters will be having a sleepover after Friday Night’s Bible Study, and brothers will be going to Alameda for some BBQ and sports after our Valentine’s Day of Compassion.

Fri 7pm: Gracepoint Training School (signup)

For those who have never taken a course at Gracepoint Fellowship Church, we highly recommend Course 101: Christian Foundations. As Craig Hazen said this past Friday, Christianity is a highly testable religion. We will cover topics such as man’s purpose, our longings, the existence of God, the historicity and authenticity of the bible, to who was Jesus, why did he die, and what evidence is there for his resurrection.  So please sign up — deadline is this Wednesday (2/11)!

Afterwards, we’ll be getting into our G-Live groups!

Sat Evening: Valentine’s Day of Compassion (signup)

We’ll be going to the Henry Robinson Center to share God’s love with them. As many of our own students found out last year, we felt more blessed to be with them than the other way around! Sign up and experience this for yourself!

Football @ Memorial Stadium (more photos)

Right before finals time last semester, several Kairos 1 and 2 brothers played football at the Memorial Stadium! The teams were split between Staff+Frosh against The World. In the end, it doesn’t really matter who won and who lost; it was spectacular just playing in the Stadium. But there’s something about those guys holding the football victoriously…

Week of Changes: The Sequel

Update: The Craig Hazen talk for tomorrow (Friday) has been moved up to 7pm. Thus, we’ll be having dinner at 5:45pm (still at 100 Wheeler). Please come on time! We don’t want to be late for the talk.

Hey everybody, a lot of things happening, so here’s the next two weeks at a glance (look below for more details):

  • Fri, 2/6 5:45pm. Dinner @ 100 Wheeler. Invite your friends! Walk over to Craig Hazen event later.
  • Sat, 2/7 10am-4pm @ Willard. Craig Hazen in-house training session. $10. Signup!
  • Sun, 2/8 11:15am @ Willard. Sunday Worship Service with baptism afterwards. (Note change in time.)
  • Fri, 2/13-5/1, 7-9pm @ 1st Pres. All-college courses (such as c101, sk1, etc). Signup!
  • Sat, 2/14. Valentine’s Day of Compassion. Signup!

Christianity in a World of Religions (Speaker: Craig Hazen)
Friday, 2/6, 7pm @ 155 Dwinelle

Dr. Hazen is an excellent speaker (I’ve heard him personally when I was a junior in college), and he’ll be talking about Christianity’s exclusive claim to truth in this world of many different religions. Although the event itself is at 7pm, we’ll be providing dinner @ 5:45pm inside 100 Wheeler. Don’t forget to invite your friends!

The following Saturday, there will be an in-house training session with Dr. Hazen. He’ll be equipping us on the topic of World Religions. It’ll cost $10 (which covers lunch and use of the facility), and it will be held at Willard Auditorium starting at 10am. Please signup if you’re interested.

Gracepoint Fellowship Church: Sunday Worship Service
10am Prayer time | 11:15 Service w/ Baptism

We’ll be having our baptism service this Sunday immediately following our Worship Service. Please note the change in time — we’re starting at 11:15am from now on. If you’d like to join us for prayer time, that’ll be at 10am. At least the location is always constant. (Actually, not always.)

All-College Friday Courses
Fridays, 2/13-5/1, 7-9pm @ 1st Pres

Starting next Friday, we’ll be having our Friday night courses! Whether you’re a Christian or one learning about Christianity, you can sign up for Course 101, where you’ll learn the intellectual foundation for the Christian faith. If you want to grow and mature as a Christian, you can take the Survival Kit courses. It’s all happening next Friday, so please signup!

Valentine’s Day of Compassion
Saturday, 2/14, afternoon @ Henry Robinson Center

Each year on Valentine’s Day, rather than focusing inwardly at ourselves via romantic love, many groups within Gracepoint goes out to convalescent homes or homeless shelters to show others what true love is all about. This year, Kairos 2 and Kairos 4 are joining forces: we’ll be going to the Henry Robinson Center to share God’s love with them. Last year, we had a wide range of children, from second grade to those in high school. It was such a pleasure to see their faces light up last year — I’m sure it’ll be the same this year! More info to come, but if you’re already interested, please signup!

Week of Changes

Hi everyone, hope you guys are having a good week. For those who didn’t go, we had a really good time at the Gracepoint Winter Retreat this past weekend. From our group alone, we had four salvation decisions: Jackie Lu, Jordan Tsai, Matt Mo, and Ron Tong! In addition, we’ve had many more rededications! If you’re around next year, please join us!

DT Groups

Pastor Ed and Kelly Kang have often expressed that the best way to know more about God — and of ourselves — is through daily reading and meditating over the Bible. We completely agree. However, we recognize that it’s often difficult to do your devotion time (or DT) consistently, so we’re now offering DT groups across all of Kairos! For me, it’s insightful to hear others’ thoughts on the same passage because they offer perspectives that I don’t think of, and vice versa. If you’re interested, please sign up for the times you’re available to do DT.

Friday Bible Study: 6:30pm @ 213 Wheeler

Yes, we’re back at 213 Wheeler! As usual, we’ll start off with dinner, followed by our Bible Study. Welcome back to our official first Bible Study of the semester!

Sunday Worship Service: 11:30am

Starting this Sunday (2/1), we’ll be changing up our SWS format. We’ll begin with prayer time at 10am for those who would like to participate, followed by service time at 11:30am. Please take notice of the change in time — if you come at 1:30pm, you’ll be there alone (or with others who did not read carefully)!

Welcome Back: First Week of School

UPDATE: Rides to church this Sunday will not be provided. Please use the transit/bart to get to Northloop (here’s one route that you can take).

Hi everyone, welcome back from vacation! Hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable time (and hopefully no broken limbs from snowboarding, skiing, and the like).

Gracepoint Fellowship Church Winter Retreat 2009

Time of sharing and playing games

Time of sharing and playing games

I’m personally looking forward to the retreat that’s coming up this weekend (Friday-Sunday). It will be a good time for us, as a church, to start off the new year on the same page. From talks to personal testimonies from members of our church (each with his/her own unique background), it will definitely be a spirit-led time. Moreover, there will be plenty of opportunities to fellowship, share, and play games!

For those who’d still like to go, it’s not too late to sign up! Please let Abe know if you’re still interested!

Those of you who signed up will be contacted shortly on rides. Please bring warm clothes and appropriate rain gear — it’s forecasted to rain.

Sunday Worship Service @ NORTHLOOP

Since many of us will be at the retreat, service this Sunday (still at 1:30pm) will be at our Northloop building. If you’re interested in coming out to Alameda for service, please contact Abe ASAP so that he can arrange rides for you (it would be much harder to do so when I’m at the retreat). Here’s how you can use the transit system to get there.

That is all for now. Email Abe if you have any questions — otherwise, see y’all at the retreat (or next week)!

Kairos Snow Trip on Jan 17

UPDATE: It is sad but true, our snow trip has been postponed because the weather has been too hot for too long up in the Sierras. All the snow is melting, and the remaining snow is rock solid and very icy.
On the other hand, we will be having an all-college (that’s right, with all the college groups at Gracepoint Church) picnic this Saturday. More details to come soon!!

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you’re making the most of your winter break! If you’re bored out of your minds (or would like to make your break more productive), you might want to check Mere Christianity — many of our own are currently reading it!

This Friday, we’ll be sharing our DTs together at Andy/Amy’s place at 6:30pm, starting with dinner. Please let Andy know if you can make it.

snowballNext Saturday (Jan 17), we’ll be having our very first all-Kairos Snow Trip! We’ll carve our own paths for sledding, and we’ll also have a massive snowball fight. What should the break-up be? By gender? By Kairos groups? (Though, that’s too unfair — Kairos 2 will automatically win.) What about… students vs. staff? (Though, that’s also unfair… I’ll leave the rest to your own interpretation.) =D

On top of that, we’ll be introducing British Bulldog to all the brothers who go. Without going into too much details, I’ll just say that it’s a game that will sap all your energy!

If you can make it to the snow trip, please email Abe by THIS SUNDAY (1/11)! See you then!

PS: Feeding off the Presidential Election this past year, I’ve included a democratic poll below. Choose wisely… that’s the look you’ll have for this upcoming year!

News: Combined Bible Study & Joyland Christmas Celebration

Update (12/12): For the Bible Study tonight, please bring an LED light (or a small flashlight) and dress warmly! After Bible Study, we’ll be going out to Memorial Glade and… well, that’s all I’m gonna say. Just bring a light and bundle up on clothes!
So remember, dinner @ Crossroads at 5:45, and Bible Study @ First Pres at 7pm. See you then!

Hi everyone, though finals begin this week, there’s still a lot that we’re doing! Check them out:

Thurs (12/11), 10am: Bros Football @ Memorial Stadium

Guys, if you’re free, we’re gonna play football at the Memorial Stadium this Thursday! Don’t worry — we won’t be playing that long. After our quick game, we’re going to grab lunch altogether. Don’t forget to bring your A Game — especially if you’re unfortunate enough to play against the staff. =D

Fri (12/12), 7pm: Combined Bible Study @ First Pres

We’ll be joining the other ministry groups for combined Bible Study. Let’s meet at Crossroads at 5:45pm for dinner — some people have graciously volunteered to swipe us in!

Sun (12/14), 1pm: Sunday Worship Service and Joyland Christmas Celebration (4pm)

JCC from last year (click to view more photos)

JCC from last year (click to view more photos)

Please note the new time (1pm, not 1:30) for service this Sunday. Afterwards, Gracepoint Fellowship Church will present its annual Joyland Christmas Celebration! Think Thanksgiving Celebration, but instead of Thanksgiving it’s Christmas themed, and instead of college students and grads performing, there will be cute kids on stage! I know it’s in the midst of finals, but if you’re free, please come — you won’t regret it!

Angel Tree and Winter Retreat

Please let me (Abe) know if you’re interested in participating in Angel Tree. And don’t forget to sign up for the Winter Retreat — there’s an early bird special if you sign up before 12/31! More info about both events here.

Oh, the memories…

We had a busy week last week! Rather than summing everything up in verbose (and perhaps obtuse) language, here they are in picture format!

Scott made his salvation decision right after Week 8 of Course 101. Some of the bros took him out to eat as he shared with us the process in making his decision. Praise God!
