Potluck, RSF Night, and Sunday Service

Friday

POTLUCK – 5:45pm @ Dana House
We’ll begin the night with dinner at Dana House. If you’re able to help make something for potluck, please contact Michelle (truong23 [at] gmail [dot] com). Otherwise, the rest of you might be enlisted asked to make certain dishes, so stay tuned for that. After the potluck, we’ll be having…

GTS – 7pm @ First Pres
Just FYI, there’s no praise time this week, so please come at 7pm sharp. For those taking Course, we’re now on Week 7! The end is near! (But, of course, you all know this already.)
Afterwards, all of Kairos will be joining Koinonia for…

RSF NIGHT
Yes, we’ll have fun with our church-made games specifically designed to be played en masse. Many of you have been to Kleeburger Night (and only a few to RSF Night), so it’s very similar to that. So come on out. For Northend! For Glory!

Sunday
SWS – 11:30am @ Willard Middle School
Time and place should be drilled into your heads by now, but here’s something  you might not know: Andy Tung will be preaching on the pulpit this Sunday! Not that this should be the sole reason for coming out, but thought y’all would like to know.

Best of April

This sure has been a packed month, hasn’t it? Can you believe that we had G-Live at the beginning of April? It felt like eons ago for me, personally. Anyways, in case you’ve missed some posts on our site:

Finally, there are two albums I’d like to highlight. First is the pictures from our Kairos trip to Cordonices Park; the other includes pictures from Easter Sunday at Gracepoint Fellowship Church. Here are a few photos from each set:

Cordonices Park

We trekked to Cordonices Park after Gracepoint Training School on April 17, 2009. The brave and courageous — including our Fearless Leader — dared to go down the legendary Stone Slide (some kicking and screaming).

This week: fun at Tilden Park

I hope you all had a good weekend, especially as we just finished our Good Friday and Easter services. With those out of the way (as well as G-Live), I hope you guys are returning back to a normal schedule. Anyone suffering from Post-G-Live Syndrome yet?

THURSDAY

Update: Bros, we’ll be grabbing dinner beforehand at Sun Hong Kong @ 5:45pm. Even if you can’t tee it up with us, you’re welcome to still join us for some grub!

The bros will be going to a nearby driving range this Thursday at 7pm. How far can you hit? Better yet, how accurate is your swing? Are you a Mike or a Howard (watch video above)? Well, it doesn’t matter what you say; show up, and put your skills to the test!

FRIDAY
First Pres @ 7pm

We’re back to our usual Gracepoint Training School schedule. GTS courses start at 7pm! For those taking Course (both 101 and 101x), remember we’re now on Week 5. Afterwards, we’re gonna have some fun at Tilden Park. With that said, please bring jackets and tennis shoes with you.

SATURDAY

In the morning, the girls will be hiking at the Oakland Redwoods, whereas the bros will be doing something… special. Stay tuned, bros. =D

Afterwards, we’re all going to a nearby library (outside of Berkeley) to get some real studyin’ done.  After nerding out, we’ll be going to Andy and Amy’s for dinner!

GRACEPOINT BAPTISM SUNDAY
 11:30am @ Willard Middle School
Note: Reminder that we will also go back to our regular prayer meeting schedule this week, 10am @ Willard Middle School.

Join us for our regular Sunday Worship Service — except it’s not that regular, since we’ll be having our Baptism service as well.

Alright gang, it’s gonna be yet another packed week. Hope you’re all doing ok in school!

Passion Week

We’ll be meeting in front of Crossroads @ 6:45.

Good Friday is the day when Christians all over the world pause to remember what Christ has done for us on the cross. If you’re a Christian, please join us as we commemorate this day. If you’re not, we invite you to come as well, to see what Christians mean when we say that Christ has come to take away our sins.

If you’d like to come, please let one of the staff know!

For those taking c101/c101x, we will start at 10am @ Kofman! For those not enrolled in Course, let’s meet at Crossroads @ 10:45am.

Join us for this Easter service in Alameda! Afterwards, we’ll be having lunch at a park nearby.

Again, please make sure one of the staff knows that you’d like to come!

G-Live: Post-Mortem

It’s hard to believe that Gracepoint Live came and went, just like that! Personally, it’s rather surreal, especially as of yesterday when I went back to work. Whereas most of my fellow coworkers had a “typical weekend,” mine was anything but typical. As a church, we hosted an event that drew in 1900+ (not including our own regulars) over a span of three showings on one day! By the end of the day Sunday, one couldn’t even tell that we were there at Willard, let alone having hosted an amazing large-scale production!

Several people have shared encouraging stories of friends who were impacted by G-Live. Many more have been personally touched through this entire process. For me, I am once again reminded of how beautiful the church in action is when there’s a worthy cause out there. Specifically, it was a blessing for me to work with the seniors on the Intro Video. I knew most of these guys when they first started coming out. I’ve known Ron when Kairos first started, Chris Ko (of a2f) when he was a freshman, Josh Linville (president of a2f) when he came out as a frosh — and I was there when he made his decision, Wesker (of Koinonia) when he first came out to Kairos. They’ve come a long way since then — I have stories to prove it! Many of these seniors (and many more!) worked behind the scenes, whether it be testing out different ways to drop ink onto paper, setting/dressing up the locations, catching the ball thrown up into the air, dropping buckets of water, testing different umbrellas (and in the process, getting very, very wet… and ruining umbrellas), modifying a potato launcher to shoot flour out at an amazing speed, etc. In addition, Praxis members were also pulled to get the job done: there was the cameraman (who was smooth as butter), the people who composed the music, others who layered in the sound effects, and another who created the end piece from scratch to make the finished product much more snazzy. All these people gave it their all, even though their faces (or names) were never shown on the video. That, to me, is the church in action: people going all out not for their own personal glory, but for the sake of glorifying God alone!

How was your experience of GLive? Remember, as we’ve learned from Deuteronomy 8, much of Christian life is about remembering these kinds of things. What that entails, specifically, is to share our thoughts and feelings with one another!

TOMORROW (Sunday)

Post G-Live Sundays are always a blast. We’ll have our usual service at 11:30am @ Willard, followed by a massive BBQ by Dishgracepoint himself (I like to call him Tomatouille). Right after lunch, we’ll be watching behind-the-scene clips of G-Live, as well as the most hilarious/embarrassing G-Live moments. Hopefully, I won’t have to see myself up there… but I do hope to see Johnny on screen. =D
