Week of Changes

Hi everyone, hope you guys are having a good week. For those who didn’t go, we had a really good time at the Gracepoint Winter Retreat this past weekend. From our group alone, we had four salvation decisions: Jackie Lu, Jordan Tsai, Matt Mo, and Ron Tong! In addition, we’ve had many more rededications! If you’re around next year, please join us!

DT Groups

Pastor Ed and Kelly Kang have often expressed that the best way to know more about God — and of ourselves — is through daily reading and meditating over the Bible. We completely agree. However, we recognize that it’s often difficult to do your devotion time (or DT) consistently, so we’re now offering DT groups across all of Kairos! For me, it’s insightful to hear others’ thoughts on the same passage because they offer perspectives that I don’t think of, and vice versa. If you’re interested, please sign up for the times you’re available to do DT.

Friday Bible Study: 6:30pm @ 213 Wheeler

Yes, we’re back at 213 Wheeler! As usual, we’ll start off with dinner, followed by our Bible Study. Welcome back to our official first Bible Study of the semester!

Sunday Worship Service: 11:30am

Starting this Sunday (2/1), we’ll be changing up our SWS format. We’ll begin with prayer time at 10am for those who would like to participate, followed by service time at 11:30am. Please take notice of the change in time — if you come at 1:30pm, you’ll be there alone (or with others who did not read carefully)!

Welcome Back: First Week of School

UPDATE: Rides to church this Sunday will not be provided. Please use the transit/bart to get to Northloop (here’s one route that you can take).

Hi everyone, welcome back from vacation! Hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable time (and hopefully no broken limbs from snowboarding, skiing, and the like).

Gracepoint Fellowship Church Winter Retreat 2009

Time of sharing and playing games

Time of sharing and playing games

I’m personally looking forward to the retreat that’s coming up this weekend (Friday-Sunday). It will be a good time for us, as a church, to start off the new year on the same page. From talks to personal testimonies from members of our church (each with his/her own unique background), it will definitely be a spirit-led time. Moreover, there will be plenty of opportunities to fellowship, share, and play games!

For those who’d still like to go, it’s not too late to sign up! Please let Abe know if you’re still interested!

Those of you who signed up will be contacted shortly on rides. Please bring warm clothes and appropriate rain gear — it’s forecasted to rain.

Sunday Worship Service @ NORTHLOOP

Since many of us will be at the retreat, service this Sunday (still at 1:30pm) will be at our Northloop building. If you’re interested in coming out to Alameda for service, please contact Abe ASAP so that he can arrange rides for you (it would be much harder to do so when I’m at the retreat). Here’s how you can use the transit system to get there.

That is all for now. Email Abe if you have any questions — otherwise, see y’all at the retreat (or next week)!

Angel Tree Awesomeness!

Tammy, Brian, Abe, Eddy, Yang... er... Santa Claus, Ryan, Michelle

From left to right: Tammy, Brian, Abe, Eddy, Yang... er... Santa Claus, Ryan, Michelle

On Saturday, December 20th, Kairos 2 had the opportunity to join in on the annual Angel Tree Extravaganza!  The event was truly spectacular as families from all over Oakland and surrounding areas came to experience a slice of Christmas.  Each of the families had a family member in prison and signed up to receive aid through Angel Tree for their families.  I am not sure who benefited more from the event — the families or us!

Our time there began that day as families began to show up and a delicious turkey dinner was served.  Shortly following some rockin’ Joyland songs were sung, a hilarious skit was presented, and magic tricks were shown to be quite magical (no really, they were).  To top it off, Santa himself showed up to give gifts to the children. It was a real blessing to see the joy we were able to bring to the families.

In such holidays, it seems like it would be extremely hard for the families as they are missing a parent.  I was really touched to know that perhaps maybe for that day we helped them see they have a Heavenly Father who loves them and is always there.  In the process, I too was greatly reminded of this love and the precious gift He gave each of us on Christmas!

Many more awesome Angel Tree Extravaganzas to come! =)

Kairos Snow Trip on Jan 17

UPDATE: It is sad but true, our snow trip has been postponed because the weather has been too hot for too long up in the Sierras. All the snow is melting, and the remaining snow is rock solid and very icy.
On the other hand, we will be having an all-college (that’s right, with all the college groups at Gracepoint Church) picnic this Saturday. More details to come soon!!

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you’re making the most of your winter break! If you’re bored out of your minds (or would like to make your break more productive), you might want to check Mere Christianity — many of our own are currently reading it!

This Friday, we’ll be sharing our DTs together at Andy/Amy’s place at 6:30pm, starting with dinner. Please let Andy know if you can make it.

snowballNext Saturday (Jan 17), we’ll be having our very first all-Kairos Snow Trip! We’ll carve our own paths for sledding, and we’ll also have a massive snowball fight. What should the break-up be? By gender? By Kairos groups? (Though, that’s too unfair — Kairos 2 will automatically win.) What about… students vs. staff? (Though, that’s also unfair… I’ll leave the rest to your own interpretation.) =D

On top of that, we’ll be introducing British Bulldog to all the brothers who go. Without going into too much details, I’ll just say that it’s a game that will sap all your energy!

If you can make it to the snow trip, please email Abe by THIS SUNDAY (1/11)! See you then!

PS: Feeding off the Presidential Election this past year, I’ve included a democratic poll below. Choose wisely… that’s the look you’ll have for this upcoming year!
